How does it work?

The treatment involves a simple injection that augments the breasts or buttocks to give volume and lift. A local anaesthetic is used to numb the area being treated. In the case of breast shaping, the Macrolane gel is injected using a needle in the crease below the breast and placed under the breast tissue in the subglandular plane.

What is the injection made of?

The clinic uses Macrolane product which is a smooth, clear, non-animal based hyaluronic acid gel produced by Q-med – the world leaders in the manufacturing of the facial dermal fillers. Products like Restylane and Restylane Perlane have been injected to millions of faces since a decade with minimal side effects. Macrolane is a purer and thicker version used for body aesthetics rather than facial aesthetic. It therefore creates greater volume with a slower absorption rate.

Is Macrolane Injection Safe?

Macrolane consists of Hyaluronic acid which already exists within your body and thus is not recognised as a foreign substance. Extensive trials since 2002 have shown no long term issues.

How long will the surgery take?

On average, the consultation with the Surgeon takes 30 min, and the procedure itself less than 45 min.

What can I expect after the procedure?

There maybe some tenderness in the area for up to a week : your breast will feel firmer than usual for a few days as macrolane gel absorbs water, after a week or 2 it begins to soften and after a few weeks becomes quite soft and very similar to breast tissue.

You can resume normal activities after the treatment and drive yourself home however it is recommended that you wear a support bra for the first week and avoid any physical activity for 2 weeks.

When can I get back to work?

In most cases, the patient can go back to work on the same day.

When can I see results and for how long will they last?

The results can be seen instantly, however you should expect some reduction in volume over the next few days. Results will last for one year, then a top up treatment is recommended to sustain the achieved shape.

Macrolane is topped up every year with roughly half the volume that is injected initially. Most people would have 200mls in the first treatment and thus have a 100ml top up after 12 months. They would then have a longer period before the next top up, say 14 months and so on.

What are the main advantages compared to traditional breast augmentation (BBA)?

First of All BSI (Breast Shape Injection) is performed under local anaesthesia which lowers all the downside effects of the traditional breast plastic surgery. Macrolane Injection does not interfere with the results of Mammograms which are obstructed by silicone implants. This allows you to have regular checks of your breasts that show all of the tissue.

In addition, Breast Shape Injections are designed to give the breast a fullness and subtle reshaping by only 1 cup size, which is very difficult to achieve with surgery. However, if a woman wishes to go from an A to a C or a B to a D then Macrolane is not an appropriate treatment for her.

The ultimate success of Macrolane Injection is that a woman can check how her breast feels and looks halfway through a procedure, if she wishes she can easily have more fullness. One cannot do this with surgery.

What is the cost of the treatment?

The Procedure price is £2745 for Breast Shaping, any subsequent top up treatments will be charged at £ 1375 – usually 1-2 years apart.
